Who are we?
Essential Space
Welcome to ES, we are a mental health therapy and counselling service supporting adults and young people living in Gloucestershire and online across the UK. We offer a sliding scale payment arrangement for your sessions, where we ask you what is affordable for you to pay; this way we are able to see people who can afford to pay the usual full amount, and others who need a reduced fee that is sustainable to manage and pay every week while you receive your support. We aim to provide an inclusive, easy-to-access service where we consider everyone's circumstances. We have ground-floor rooms available for any accessibility requirements.
As a group of practitioners, we have become very aware that, for some, the cost of support or inaccessibility may stop someone from having the therapeutic service they need. We listened, and this is how our services grew into what we offer today.

In 2019, we opened a therapy room hire centre in Cheltenham town centre, and in early 2020, we became a Limited Company due to how much we have grown over the last two years. We now have 10 therapy rooms based at Kingsley House, between Gloucester and Cheltenham and 2 at Studio 2B in Stroud. Our team are resourced and knowledgeable in many mental health areas and are supported by clinical supervisors, qualified counsellors, counsellors in training, volunteers, and creative mentors with extensive experience in supporting people in our community with a diverse range of needs. We are an inclusive team, and we welcome people of all ages to use our service.
Meet our Founder

Sarah (SJ) Bolton-Locke
My role within Essential Space is to bring creativity and inclusion to the heart of what we do, and embrace diversity within our community.
I acknowledge that each of us has different therapeutic and mental health needs, and I believe that we all share a desire for, respect, safety, and compassion.
It is important to me that our values and visions for our service continue to thrive and benefit all of our visitors, clients, counsellors and our community. I am also a Clinical and Reflective Supervisor and a Counsellor for Children and Adults. I have also been a client, and have really found the support of a trained professional so helpful. This experience has supported me to understand what is important when someone is feeling they need to reach out for help.
