Who are we?

Essential Space

Welcome to ESCIC, we are a mental health therapy and counselling service supporting adults and young people living in Gloucestershire.  We operate as a Community Interest Company (CIC), which essentially means that we listen to our community's needs and do our best to offer a service people will want to use.  We do this by offering a sliding scale payment arrangement for your sessions, where we ask you what is affordable for you personally to pay; that is also sustainable to manage to pay on a weekly basis while you receive your support.   We aim to provide an inclusive, easy-to-access service, where we are considering everyone's circumstances.  As a group of practitioners, we have become very aware that for some, the cost of support may stop someone from having the therapeutic service they need. We listened, and this is how our services grew into what we offer today.

In 2019, we opened a therapy centre in Cheltenham town centre, and in early 2020, we became a community interest company. We now have 10 therapy rooms based at Kingsley House, between Gloucester and Cheltenham. Our team is supported by qualified counsellors who are also supervisors, counsellors in training, volunteers, and mentors with extensive experience supporting people in our community.  We are a diverse team with a breadth of knowledge between us, and we welcome people of all ages to use our service.

Co-Director

My role within ESCIC is to bring creativity and inclusion to the heart of what we do, and embrace diversity within our community.

I acknowledge that each of us has different therapeutic needs, and I believe that we all share a desire for, respect, safety, and compassion.  It is important to me that our values and visions for our service continue to thrive and benefit all of our visitors, clients, counsellors and our community.  I am also a Clinical Supervisor and a Counsellor for Children and Adults. I have also been a client, and have really found the support of a trained professional so helpful.  This experience has supported me to understand what is important when someone is feeling they need to reach out for help.
